In true Wes style, you also managed to capture the true spirit and purpose of the race in your last line:

"As much as I believe that running is an individual sport, sometimes you just got to step back and admit: it's not at all about me."

That was something I just needed to hear today. :)Alekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11569571174586091281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28269773.post-1158641679579249452006-09-19T00:54:00.000-04:002006-09-19T00:54:00.000-04:00All right Wes! You can bask in the glory of a race well-run, for a day, then get back out there and get ready for the next one. Man, great place to be with a family on Sat morning, and for a cause.
As for HR - at least first 10 min (what in case of 5k is a long time) it usually goes up due to excitement for the race, so check on your breathing (what I find also been erratic those 10 min) and general feelings. It calms down with experience, but never goes away, so just note where your personal HR jumps and stay with it.
Congrats!olgahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00493291972954387932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28269773.post-1158457502104564272006-09-16T21:45:00.000-04:002006-09-16T21:45:00.000-04:00Congratulations Wes!
