First off, let me say that I LOVE THIS WOMAN! From the moment I stepped off the plane in Arizona, she did absolutely everything in her power to make sure that my stay with her was as pleasant and as smooth as possible. Even when I was tired, cranky, and stubborn, she stepped in firmly to make sure that I didn’t make any mistakes. When Dee Dee finally arrived, I had to ask myself, “Truly, this must be Heaven?”
I can’t say enough about the people of Arizona. They were simply the best. Everyone I met, from our mutual friend Karen, to perfect strangers at the hotel, coffee shop, and restaurants, they were just pleasant to deal with, and almost always had a smile on their face.
The race itself gets an A+. Registration was quick and painless. The expo was pretty much spot on. Getting to and from the race was a breeze. They had a whole parking deck just for the athletes. The volunteers at the race were awesome, from start to finish. Not surprising since most of them, no doubt, lived in Arizona. The visiting volunteers were awesome as well!
The race venue was fine. You couldn’t really ask for a better course. I rather liked the 3 loop thingee on the bike and run, as it brought you back by family and friends multiple times. I won’t dwell on the environmental factors. If you don’t like cold and wind, then don’t race in November in Arizona! nuff said…. They took really good care of me after the race too, from the handlers, to the blankets, to the food. All was most excellent.
If my bike shows back up on time, then Tri Bike Transport gets an A+ too! Not having to worry about my bike on the way down or back is huge!!
Finally, I give The Long Course Training Manual from Endurance Nation an “A” as well. While I’m not reading too much into it, I DID finish within two minutes of my IM Florida time, using a totally different training methodology. I didn’t purchase any of their training plans, but I did purchase a few other things to kind of “thank them” for giving me so much free stuff :-)
Special thanks as usual to my beautimous wife who put me first A LOT during the last couple of months, and all the time during race week. Paying her back is going to be sweet for me! And thanks to all you too. Me lurves our community.
