A Weekend of Lasts

Last Long Run

An hour is still a pretty long run :-)  I totally screwed this up.  I woke up early, thinking I would get my swim in while it warmed up outside.  I’m in the car, driving to the gym, and I ask myself,  “Self?  Isn’t Aquafit at 9 AM on Saturdays?”  I turned around, went back to the house and checked the computer.  Sure enough.  Aquafit is just about every morning now at 9 AM.

Rather than moping in my coffee, I decided to go ahead and run.  It was forty degrees out, but it didn’t feel like forty degrees.  It was cool and crisp, but not bone numbing.  I got back in time to watch the soccer match on Fox Sports at 11 AM!  LOL…

Last long swim

OK.  Seriously.  2500 yards IS a long swim.  It was a mix of race paced long intervals, and short 100s above race pace.  While I was finishing my kick set, the guy in the lane next to me asked me if I was getting in a lot of leg work today.  I laughed and told him that I was just wrapping up a little warm up.  Fifty minutes later, and my last long swim workout of the year is complete.

LAST BEER

After leaving the gym, I went by the local video game store so they could scrub Matthew’s brand new game he managed to scratch up in less than 24 hours thankyouverymuch.  Then, it was off to the grocery store to pick up wings and beer for the Auburn-Georgia game.  Really, the beer wasn’t my idea, but Dee Dee said I was cut off after the game, and I thought, gee, what a great idea!  It was really just a bonus that Auburn won too.

I leave for Phoenix on Wednesday, so this will probably be my last blog post from Hot-lanta.  If you are going to be in Arizona for the race, and you want to meet up, ping me and I will send you my cell number.  I should be all by my lonesome during the day Thursday and Friday.  I do have family that will be there as well, but I’m playing everything by ear right now!  No set plans.

Talk to ya later from the AZ!

Wes

Well I would invite you out to our group dinner Friday night for sushi and beers, but I doubt that'd be good 2 days before the race, plus you'll have the athlete dinner/meeting to go to.

But I get in Friday morning and my friend who's traveling with me will have worked all night and need to sleep for a while, so I'll be free if you are bumming around the expo!
