Mr. Brightside

I am sitting at my kitchen table at 2:48 AM in the morning.  I was hoping that my sleep pattern would return to normalcy soon, but I had a bad, bad case of reflux last night.  Don't feel sorry for me.  It was self inflicted.  Dee Dee brought home the last two six packs of beer from the defunct store, and I drank a few after work.  Normally, this isn't a big deal.  I guess the combination of Mexican for lunch (spicy) and beer just caused my nose to cut loose.  *le sigh*  One of these days I will learn, probably about the same time the bottom of my stomach falls out.  I am not all that excited anymore to drink to excess, but evidently three was enough.

Often when I wake up in the wee hours of the morning, my mind decides to get busy, and I can't fall back asleep.  The bright side of this restaurant debacle has been bouncing off the walls of my brain.  I would  like to release it into the wild.

The sheer number of friends that came to the closing party was very humbling.  If there is one thing Dee Dee and I will take away from this, it has to be good memories and the friendship of good people.

I would say bringing home the last of the beer and 15 bottles of wine or so is a good thing, but I think I am going to re-evaluate this one.

Having Dee Dee home is a good thing.  We've actually fallen asleep together more nights in a row now than we have in a while, since vacation.  Notice I didn't say sleep together, because we haven't actually slept through the night together for obvious reasons.  I'm not sure how I'm gonna handle the T.V. situation when I'm working from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I'm sure one of you nice bloggie peeps will come rescue Dee Dee if I put out the call to come save her from being throttled :-)

Definitely a lot less stress, although Dee Dee and I find a few mundane things to argue about.  You know.  To keep our teeth sharp and all.

I have more time.  Already, I've read a magazine and a good portion of a book I've been meaning to get to.  Dee Dee and I are going to a friends wedding in a couple of weeks too.  Going to an out of town wedding would have been out of the question.

Then, of course, there's you guys...  nuff said...

K.  It's past 3 AM and I'm getting sleepy again.  Hopefully, this water has helped clear my throat and I'll be able to fall asleep again.

Nite y'all,

Wes

Oh, for the love of Pepcid:) Yeah, getting 'used to' being around one another again certainly has its challenges...getting in each others way and stuff with the look of 'what are YOU doing here?' Best of luck. I'm sure it'll all come back to ya.

I'm the same way for the past two nights, I wake up to use the restroom and I can shut my brain off. Last night it was 3:30....I finally fell asleep at 5ish. This morning it was 4:30......I finally fell asleep at 5:30ish... Then the alarm goes off, welcome to groggyville.

It seems like you have an amazing attitude about this whole thing.

It's good to see you haven't lost your perspective. :)

If it makes you feel any better, I have been waking up the past couple nights 2 hours after falling asleep, plus grinding my teeth. Stress anyone?

I hate acid reflux. it's painful.

Hope you ended up getting some sleep. My mind races at 3am if I wake up at the time for some reason too.

I'm glad you are able to reflect on the positives. :-)

Hey Bro, I just caught up on the post below... sorry to hear about the closing, I am so familiar with the challenges of small business ownership. You guys did well to hold on that long in the restaurant arena, I know it doesn't mean much right now but if you can do that you guys can do anything...that experience was worth way more then any Masters degree, Dee Dee and you will have some time now to re-group and figure out your next adventure.

and Wes I am with you on the beers, over the Holidays up North, geesh I drank a ton and man I told my Dad I need to get back home to FL, this partying is harder then running any Ultra :-)

Enjoy your Free TIME together guys you deserve it.

\_/ \_/ Cheers

PS: Your post below did have me tear up a bit BUT then I thought about all the LONG hours and stress of small business ownership that I smiled and said "These two will be just fine" God Bless You and your family!

The aftermath of any business closing takes time, you and Dee Dee have been through an awful lot.

You both have your heads on straight, be happy you can now go and enjoy the wedding!!!

Glad you are able to find the positives in the situation! Hope you can catch some better ZZZ's tonight!

Wes,
I am just getting all caught up on my blog reading.

I am so sorry to hear about the restaurant. How hard! You will both find something that makes you happy again. You have all that background and smarts.

Sleep...I so hear you. I even have started to think about cutting back the caffeine, but I just have been thinking...not doing.

I will pray for you.

Hey buddy... I thought you'd find it interesting to know a Brit celebrity chef (Guy called Anthony Worral Thomason) just closed on his restaurants in my home county...

It'll take some getting used to your new found "spare" time but I'm sure you'll soon fill it up with challenges/ relaxation/ realisation/ peace/ you time/ you and DeeDee time/ family time.... but maybe not fill it up with too many beers and Mexicans!!!

My trick for getting back to sleep is to empty my mind and think of putting myself in a big empty box all dark and with no thought... if I think of something I realise I'm doing it and stop myself - this way I *usually* fall back to sleep within 10-20mins... or it doesn't work and it's an hour or more...LOL!

PS: alternatively you could just read my lengthy blog comments as I'm sure that'd send you back to sleep to... MWAAAAAhhhhhhhhhh!

Funny, just about the time I started working an-almost-full-time week, Eric started working from home. Took some adjusting for both of us. I'm sure you two will figure it out right quick. As for being up all night with your brain a-whirlin', well, welcome to menopause! Hah! (Sheesh, where did my new-found writing accent come from? Right quick? a-whirlin'???)

How are you feeling now Wes? LOL

I'm the same way with "The Talker" (aka brain that doesn't STFU when it's supposed too) Oy.

I'm glad you're still positive about the whole situation :-)

Sorry to hear of the restaurant's closing, but glad to hear that there are upsides to it. Restaurants are awfully difficult businesses to run, and to have success at it, even for a limited number of years, is amazing. I've worked in restaurants that were owned by large corporations and I've worked in restaurants owned by small business owners. Neither have an easy time making money.

Oy... hope you got to sleep in a bit? If you and Dee Dee need a topic to argue out (& you haven't already come to your own terms on the topic...): Taking Out The Garbage Is A Man's Job. Discuss.

Sorry your brain was on the midnight hamster wheel while your esophagus was hating you for the beer/mexican food! (Sounds like a dreadful combination.) I hope you and Dee Dee enjoy the upcoming extra time together and you find a way to decrease the stress and acid reflux.

Aww bubba! I just read the past 2 post. Like everyone else has said, love, move forward, hugs...
I say go out and kick and throw things. Hey Sesame Street said it's ok as long as you didn't hurt anyone.

You guys will find your thing again.

Take care friend!

sometimes a little warm milk and mid-night humps are conducive to sleeping!

best of all is the time for you and dee dee....but as you said...not too much time or you'll be putting on the gloves...

Wes, I just came back from holidays and read your last couple of posts. (((((HUGE HUGS)))) to you and Dee Dee. You're people of class and principle. Take care

Makita said...

I hope you were able to get some sleep. Perhaps picking up a book will help lull you to sleep (so long as the book isn't too engaging).

First, I'm so sorry to hear that this chapter of your life has closed; second, you're dealing with it really really well. You're one of those people in my blogging life who just inspires me in many ways. Keep that chin up - you never know what's coming 'round the bend. :)

You tell me keep that head down and I tell you keep that chin up! I can understand the lack of sleep Wes. I hope peace of mind comes to you both soon.

Brightside indeed, Wes. All of this sounds like a normal, healthy bounce-back.

Keep hanging in there!
