Almost without exception, unsolicited acts of human kindness recharge my batteries and lower the bar on my bullshit meter. For those of you who have some time and feel the need to be touched deeply in your soul...
Start here.
Then go here.
Finally, here.
My body is tired. Physically. Mentally. Refereeing adult soccer games on Sunday night has taken its toll. Yet, I find that I am enjoying my time on the pitch like never before. I so desperately need some time off to recharge my athletic batteries. I'm hoping that taper has arrived just in time to do the deed.
Along with taper comes my first series of shortened workouts. My swim times have been cut to thirty minutes, my mid week runs to forty. I did 5x300 in the pool yesterday for an even 31 minutes. My son's high school soccer team played in (and won) the semi-finals last night. That gave me the opportunity to run by the river after work. The plan called for forty minutes with 3x2 minutes hard effort with 1 minute recovery. I nailed them and felt better for it.
Happy Hump Day, y'all!
Wes
P.S. Getting five hours of sleep last night did NOT help. I had Chili Verde to cook, people!!
OSN: 1500 meters, 30 minutes, 5x300
ORN: 3.9 miles, 40 minutes, 10:15 mmp

Enjoy your taper, Wes, you deserve it!
Oooo I'm always up for good links! Thanks Wes!! Taper time, baby!
I've been reading what's going on with Fat Cyclist (Elden) and Susan. When I read how he went on this bike ride and after felt bad for being 3/4 of a hour over time and how that was less time with Susan, my heart broke!
Today as I was driving home after dropping DH off at work, I heard a song on the radio and thought of them. I started crying. Such a hard thing for anyone to have to go through.
On a whole 'nother note, hopefully taper will be just what the doctor ordered!!
heartbreaking stuff wes, lets hug our loved ones and count all our blessings....
I followed all three links. I'm humbled. Very touching story. Thank you for sharing it.
Enjoy your taper! :D
What a story. Thanks for the link. Have a great taper. You're almost there
You've rocked your training so enjoy your taper!
The more blogs I read the more stories I come across like the one you posted. I think people find it easier to open up in a blog and I know it helps to get those thoughts out. I just wish they knew how much it helps others to read those thoughts.
Taper time - don't sneak in a big workout!
Thank you for sharing that story Wes. It really makes you stop and appreciate each day and each person that we know....
Happy tapering! Don't get to ambitious during this time. I know it's easy to do.
I thank the lord above that my family is healthy and I am allowed the opportunity to train and race, because it a roll of the dice.
Green food, and it's not a salad, yum.
Wow, that is a class act.
Good luck at your race this weekend.
Wes, rest up for taper. You've earned it.
Thanks for showing us those links. That's very sad, indeed. Like Lisa said, it makes you stop and appreciate every day.
Thanks for reminding me to appreciate everything :)
I hope you have a relaxing taper, you've been working hard!
Hope the taper does some good. It's frustrating when you go through those periods of your body rebelling against you like that. Take it easy and enjoy a little slower for a while
I hope your taper rests the mind and body, Wes. You deserve it with all the hard work you put in. Those links were very touching. It reminds me how important every part our lives are, and not to take any blessing for granted. Here is a link to another story that I know you could appreciate it. I had the pleasure of meeting him this past weekend at the tri I volunteered at. The story is linked on this blog.

Thanks for the links Wes. What an amazing journey.
Nice. Enjoy the taper!
Sometimes I get tired when I look at all you accomplish on a daily basis! Enjoy your taper!
Coupla things:
1. "lower the bar on my bullshit meter" is my new favorite phrase! Between that and jackhole I just don't know which I like better.
2. I am SO EXCITED for you! And echo the comment of whomever said not to sneak any big workouts into your taper. I know that you won't. You really have it together Wes you have set yourself up for SUCCESS on May 18.
So very excited for you (that bears repeating).
:-)
That was a great story Wes. That really was touching.
Get ready to rest up my friend.. the taper is right around the corner.
Those links have completely changed my opinion of Lance Armstrong. Thanks for that Wes
I am in tears... really... sitting here at my desk. That story touched my heart and I thank you for sharing it.
I have been enjoying your blog and your supportive/encouraging/funny comments around and about for a while - but those links? Can't say thank you enough. My heart goes out to them (Elden & Susan & family) and Lance Armstrong rocks.
Each day I come into the office and read Fatty's blog and cry and cry and cry. I want to change the course for them. I want to do something. I'm so very sad.
Time to taper. Try to enjoy it.
And thanks for the links. Life is fragile and precious, isn't it?
Oh, I'm in tears....
we just never know how truly blessed we are with our own (trivial) day to day, when a person is fighting for their life.
ohhhh....it's heartbreaking....
wow-that's a dose of perspective
enjoy your taper and a recipe?
TAPER....What is that??? Wes enjoy time off your feet..really you have been working it hard!!
